Effective and invested mentors can have outsized impacts, helping early career scientists (from undergraduates to senior scientists and tenured faculty) develop independence and confidence and to help identify opportunities for progressing their careers.
Providing excellent and individualized mentoring to students with diverse goals is one of my core aims as an academic educator and a primary goal of the lab. Mentees both past and present have taught me a lot about how challenging it can be to fulfill the expectations of a mentor you have for yourself. I owe many thanks to folks who have passed through the lab as mentees and mentors for being patient, hard-working, and fun. |
